Grow in Faith Talks

Monthly talks are presented by Fr. Darrel Kempf or Dcn. Wade Yott. Talks typically run approximately 30mins-1 hour. Please consider joining us for all of these talks. Each talk counts toward Catechist Certification, if you need documentation, please contact the Parish Office.

BLESSINGS: May 7, 7PM

What is a blessing? The Church has specific definitions and purposes for blessings. Once something is blessed it must be cared for in a particular manner. This talk will give you a better understanding of the Church’s teachings on blessings and how it applies to your life as a Christian.

LITTLE SACRAMENTS: JUNE 4, 7PM

The 1983 Code of Canon Law (CIC) defines sacramentals as “sacred signs by which effects, especially spiritual effects, are signified in some imitation of the sacraments and are obtained through the intercession of the Church” (1166). Come learn about the purpose and meaning behind sacramentals and how they can enhance your personal prayer life.

DEVOTIONS: JULY 2, 7PM

Devotions are external practices of piety that are not part of the official liturgy of the Church but are part of the popular spiritual practices of the Church. This talk will give you a deeper understanding of what it means to pray in devotion to our Saints, Blessed Mother, and more.

OUR LADY OF MT. CARMEL: JULY 16, 7PM

While Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is the patron saint of the Carmelite Order, the basis for the universal Church honoring Mary under this title dates to her appearance to an English Carmelite St. Simon Stock in the 13th century. She gave him the Brown Scapular, a garment worn by religious over the neck and shoulders as an apron, to be worn by Carmelites “as a sign of her protection.” It is a Marian devotional practice which, over the centuries, has spread to Catholics around the world.  Come learn more about the Carmelite Order, the Brown Scapular, and more.

ST. IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA: JULY 31, 5PM

St. Ignatius of Loyola is one of the most influential Saints in the teachings of the importance of Confession and Daily prayerful reflection. Join us on his feast day at 5:00pm to enter more deeply into your understanding of the teachings of St. Ignatius and how they can bring your closer to God and to a higher level of holiness. Confessions will be offered after the talk.

TRANSFIGURATION OF OUR LORD: AUGUST 6, 7PM

We all know that the Transfiguration is when Jesus took Peter, James, and John up the mountain and his face and clothes became dazzlingly bright. This talk looks at this feast and helps to define what it means and how it relates to you in today’s world.
