Mass Intentions

One of the greatest acts of charity is to pray for the living and the dead, and the greatest and most powerful prayer we have is the Mass, since the fruits of the Mass are the very fruits of Jesus’ redemption.  For that reason, all are encouraged to have Mass offered for loved ones who have died, or even for the living who have some need.  This is an ancient Christian practice, and all are encouraged to take it up.

Mass Intention Scheduling Guidelines

  • In order to give the opportunity for all parishioners to schedule a Mass intention for their loved ones and to accommodate recently deceased individuals, the Mass intention book will open no more than one year in advance.  We cannot accept Mass Intentions for more than one year in advance because Catholic Canon Law requires us to fulfill the intention within a year.
  • Each parish family is allowed up to 4 scheduled Masses (up to 2 of these can be Sundays).
  • Only 1 Mass (for which a stipend was received) per day can be prayed for any individual intention.
  • Christmas Vigil, Christmas Day, Easter Vigil and Easter Masses (including Holy Thursday), Ash Wednesday, Divine Mercy Sunday, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Masses are always for the intentions of the Living and Deceased Members of the Parish.  In addition, one Sunday Mass per weekend and every Holy Day, is offered for the intention of the Parishioners of St. Joseph’s.
  • Please also note that Church governance requires that only one intention (person) per Mass is allowed.  However, for pastoral concerns to better accommodate the needs of the parishioners, we will adhere to the following:  Up to three names will be allowed per intention.
  • Due to the number of requests, it is absolutely first come, first serve.
  • The Mass intention is not required to be announced by the priest.

To make a Mass intention request, please call or visit the parish office or complete the form below the Mass intention calendar.
