Day in a Box

Day in a Box

Saturday, September 21, 8:00am through Sunday, September 22 after the 8:00am Mass.

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to be homeless? Do you have a desire to help those who cannot afford basic human necessities? Join us for a Christian Service event like no other you’ve experienced. Participants will live in a cardboard box for 24 hours. During the day time we will participate in speaker events, service projects, and more to share the true depth of need.

Registration:

Registration is required for this event. You can either register by turning in your permission slip to the School or Parish Offices or you can register by completing this form. Physical signature of participant or parent/legal guardian will be required at the time of the event.

What to expect:

Participants will take up temporary residence in a cardboard box in the field behind the church. This event does require sleeping in a cardboard box, rain or shine.

Following registration we will participate in various presentations, speakers, and real-world life simulations to experience what someone afflicted with homelessness might experience.

The only available restrooms will be a port-a-john.

Participants must be 8th grade through adult.

The Parish will provide all food and beverage throughout the event. Participants should not bring any food or beverages. Water will be available at all times.

Pledges & Prayers:

Participants will accept pledges from friends and family for each hour of this event. During a pledge hour, the participant offers his/her discomfort as alms for the pledger’s prayer intention. Pledge hours can be scheduled for $5 each hour. All donations will go to serve the mission of our Good Samaritan Ministry.

Safety & Security:

There will be adult chaperones awake for the entire 24 hours.

The field will be set up with males on one side and females on the other.

Additional safety and security measures will be in place. Please contact the Parish Office to learn more about what our safety plans involve.

Multiple emergency phone numbers will be provided to participants prior to the event. A detailed agenda will be provided prior to the event.
